Finger Lakes riesling

I spent a long weekend in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. I'm a big fan of Finger Lakes riesling, and this story in the New York Post caught my eye.

The Post notes that the French wine magazine La Vigne has named the Finger Lakes the "new riesling kingdom". Earlier this spring, New York rieslings took gold medals at the Rieslings du Monde competition in Strasbourg:  Anthony Road 2008 Riesling Trockenbeeren (which won the Trophee d’Excellence) and 2008 Dry Riesling, Chateau Lafayette 2008 Semi-dry Riesling and Dr. Konstantin Frank 2008 Bunch Select Late Harvest Riesling. The Finger Lakes rieslings tend to be drier and not as sweet as European rieslings. I'm looking forward to trying many of the latest batches this summer.
